Conceptual Design #1423 is an updated version of The Chestnut Hill home plan #1244. This two-story, Craftsman design comes complete with cedar shakes and board and batten siding. A wrap-around front porch, timber details, and metal accent roof add charm to the exterior. With its narrow width, this home easily fits on smaller lots.

A coat closet just inside the foyer provides convenient storage. The great room is crowned with a decorative sloping ceiling and a recessed fireplace allows openness. The front-facing kitchen provides a window over its double-sink while the dining room enjoys rear views. Outdoor living is versatile in this home plan with a rear porch, screened porch with fireplace, and an expansive patio.

The two-story garage features extra storage and a side-entry door. An additional storage closet and bench, as well as a powder room, are just inside.  Enter the master suite through double doors and enjoy the height provided by a tray ceiling. The master bathroom offers his and hers vanities, a linen closet and a walk-in closet that is just steps away.

I love how the screen porch is designed into the house. This would fit perfectly on our lake lot. We would get lots of sun into the family room as our lot is on the west side of the lake. What is the total sqare footage. This is a wonderful design for a lake as you get a good view from the family room, dining room, and master bedroom.

Situating the screened porch behind the great room will eliminate any view out of the back and make the great room dark. If I had my preference, I would have the porch off of the dining area and deck behind the great room.

I noticed that in the original sketch, there was an optional bedroom/study on the second floor but on the final plan that seems to have been eliminated. Why was it eliminated?

Hi Nancy, when we released the original sketches for design 1423, we received feedback that adding the optional bedroom along with the 2 existing bedrooms and bonus room would be too much to only have one bathroom on that floor. We decided not to show the optional additional bedroom for that reason. The space is still there, so it could still be added as a modification if you like that layout. Thank you. Still like a little added space for a sewing room. We really like this design as it seems to fit both of our wishes. Do you have a first floor floor plan to show cellar stairs? When do you think that the final plan will be shown?

Hi Nancy, We have not designed this plan with a basement foundation at this time, but one can always be added through our modification process. We do not have a scheduled date of completion for this design yet, but if you would like to purchase the plan we can move it up to the front of the line! You can view pricing for The Carson on our website and our customer service team can assist with your order, if you’re interested. 1-800-388-7580 or [email protected].

Very nice house plan with lots of character for the square footage. I have a building lot that backs up to a golf course and sightline to a lake just beyond, so the outdoor living space is excellent. I recommend swapping the sink & vanity on the exterior wall with the linen closet in the master bath, as well as making the closet deeper since there is space to do so. Also, widen the hallway between kitchen wall and back stairs so a bench / cubbies could be available coming in from the garage.

Can you please confirm the external width of the plan? I am having trouble reconciling the 44’8″ width noted on the website to the size of the rooms. The sum of the internal dimensions for the garage (25), kitchen (12) and great room (15) equals 52 feet.

What are the dining room, kitchen, and screened in porch, ceiling heights?

This is a great plan for a smaller lot! The best I’ve seen that includes a porch and screened porch.

Also, I would be building on a sloped lot and hope there will be an unfinished basement foundation option.

Love this Craftsmen Cottage and would be very interested once it’s complete….. What are the ceiling heights on both floors and could the great room have a scissor vault with beams on both sides? It appears to have a flat ceiling in the middle…. Looking forward to your reply. 😉

Hi…Scott here from Wimberley Cottage Company. I have built your homes before and they sell very well. I like this house because it offers great outdoor space with having to big a foot print. Master could be a foot wider and the master closet might be short….depends on wha t you guys have done. Let me know when it’s really to go….I have a perfect view lot that would be perfect for this house.

I love you style of homes, we are looking for a home plan with an angled garage which you have the most I have seen so far. The biggest complaint I have about your plans is that on your angled garage plans, the master bedroom is usually on the opposite side. I would love to see a craftsman style angled garage plan with the master next to garage or upstairs along with 2 bedrooms and a loft/bonus area upstairs.
This plan is great other than the garage isn’t angled in this one. Love the screen porch as well.

We are hoping to build within the next year. I think this plan (with a few tweaks) could make it to our top three. I really like te fact that it doesn’t have wasted square footage with a formal dining or living room. I’m just wondering if the upstairs bathroom could be reworked in a way that would allow for two sinks? Or a jack and Jill? Also what are the measurements on the studio room?

Love the look of this house. With a few changes I think it could be a plan I would buy. At the point the plans are now would suggested changes by me be considered modification costs? Also, if my husband & I decide this is the one what lead time would there be for a finished set of plans? Thanks!

    • Echo on

Hi Holly, we love getting feedback from customers on conceptual designs! If you have specific ideas about things that could be changed to make the plan better or more functional, in your opinion, we would be happy to get your thoughts. Customer comments are taken into consideration when we are selecting plans for completion and the final design features but we would necessarily incorporate all of your requested changes so modifications will likely be needed. If you are interested in purchasing the plan, contact customer service for a completion date and more information. 1-800-388-7580.

Make the garage a front-loader, widen it by 3 feet or at least move the left wall so the MBth and WIC gain a little space. The pantry placement is odd but could work, maybe as cabinets instead of traditional tiny-room design. The upstairs optional room would work great for indoor storage. This plan has the features I like in a townhouse down here that never goes on sale. This would be a great plan with a few tweaks.
