Home Plan 1440 is a modern update to The Dewfield home plan #1030. Starting with the exterior, a shed dormer and arched windows and garage doors add Cottage charm. Cedar shakes and timber wood accents enhance this designs  curb-appeal.

Hallways are minimized in the interior, maximizing usable square footage. The  cathedral great room is highlighted with a rear facing bay window and the screened porch with summer kitchen is a welcomed addition. The u-shaped kitchen centers around an island that overlooks the dining room. A pantry and storage closets are nearby.

The master bedroom enjoys a tray ceiling and a walk-in closet is located within the master bathroom, simplifying morning routines. Two additional bedrooms are located on the same side of the home as the master suite, perfect for families with small children, yet still providing privacy to each bedroom.

The  utility room is enlarged and features access from the outdoors with a covered entry. The garage has its own access to the home without needing to pass through the utility room.

Home Plan 1440 - First Floor Plan

Width – 58’0″ Depth – 65’0″

Above the garage, find a bonus room with plenty of natural light coming in from dormer windows. A storage closet is available making this ideal for a future guest suite.

I really like this plan! I too always liked the Dewfield, but the kitchen was small and there was no screened in porch. Will the front elevation of this plan look like the Dewfield? Is changing the garage to a side loading garage considered a modification? I might also like to move the fireplace to the back/rear of the great room (eliminating the bay window) and flanked it with large windows.

Hi Pam, Conceptual Design 1440 has a very similar elevation to The Dewfield. The exterior materials are more rustic, though. With cedar shakes and wooden brackets in the gables. Yes, changing the front-entry garage to a side-entry is a modification.

This is great – the just right separation of kitchen-dining area and Great Room is perfect – Sometimes open plans are too open! Pantry looks like a nice, good size but would like it to be not in dining area. My favorite so far- looking for retirement house.

My husband and I are planning to build a new, more efficient home for retirement. This plan offers everything we have in mind. I agree about centering the fireplace and eliminating the awkward “dead space” now present by the cabinetry surrounding the fireplace. A pocket door to the section of the house containing the smaller bedrooms and second bathroom would allow complete privacy for guests using that space. The large screened porch and abundance of windows are great. We also appreciate the big dormer windows in the bonus room, which would actually allow a good view, unlike a lot of bonus room windows. Is there enough space to allow for a larger island in the kitchen if oriented differently?

Thank you for the feedback, Susan! If you are wanting to flip the island around so that it faces the dining room, a modification may be needed to push the wall with the kitchen sink out a few feet to allow space to walk on either side of the island. Depending on how you might be willing to rearrange the kitchen layout, I’m sure there are several options to accommodate a larger island.

My wife and I would love to build this house! The only changes we would suggest would be to center the fireplace along the wall in the living room and extend the cabinetry all the way to the exterior wall on the left side of the fireplace (eliminating the narrow window.)

Love this! Would just want to add a sitting area for the master bedroom and a larger master bath. This could be the retirement house plan we’ve been looking for.

LOVE this plan! My favorite plan has always been The Chesnee but I’m looking for a much smaller version of it. (Love the open feeling of the main rooms) and this plan seems to have that open feel to it too. Will this be available for purchase anytime soon?

Love this! The Dewfield has always been one of my favorites. The only thing missing was the screened porch. The expanded laundry room is also a nice touch. This update really nails it. Beautiful.
