The Wallace  – House Plan 1446

Cedar shakes mix with siding and stone to create a richly textural Craftsman exterior. This floor plan is ideal for large or growing families with open living spaces making it easy to be together. The master suite and a bedroom/study are downstairs while three large bedrooms with walk-in closets are upstairs. A second-floor pocket office is a great space for children to complete homework or projects and a bonus room provides additional square footage for recreation or storage.

Home Design 1446 is an update of The Giselle 1295. This traditional exterior features an arched entry framed in columns and timber-wood accents. A center dormer sits on top of a metal accent roof and cedar shakes and a stone skirt wrap-around the design.

The foyer provides a staircase to the second floor along with coat and storage closets. The two-story great room enjoys a fireplace flanked by built-in shelves and french doors open to a screened porch with second fireplace. The kitchen is open with a center island that offers bar seating. Pantry storage can be organized between two spaces and the dining room enjoys front facing french doors.

The master bedroom is topped with a tray ceiling and passing-through the master bathroom with dual vanities leads to a divided closet, perfect for couples. A guest suite on the opposite side serves visitors with a full bathroom, walk-in closet and linen closet. A spacious utility room with outdoor access and two-car garage complete the first floor.

A second floor loft overlooks the great room below. Two additional bedrooms share a bath and each room has a walk-in closet. Built-in shelves along the hallway create a library nook and the bonus room and future bedroom and bathroom allow for expansion.

I absolutely love the look of this house but we don’t want a 2-story. We could use a room above the garage but not necessary.
What are your suggestions? Do you have a 1-story plan with the same exterior? I like the look of a house that looks like a 2-story but it has only 1 level.

    • Echo Jones on

Hi Julia! We do not have the exact exterior of The Wallace Plan 1446 with a one story floor plan. If you are looking at similar exteriors, The Janson Plan 1412 may interest you. But it really depends on what exterior features that you like about The Wallace… is it the gables, the rustic finishes, etc. Also, it depends on what your needs are for the one story floor plan – number of bedrooms, square footage, etc. If you would like assistance with finding your perfect plan, give us a call at 1-800-388-7580 or email your criteria to [email protected]. We’re happy to help!

Love it with one exception. I would have a door from outside to enter into the bathroom from the spa. Even if there was not a pool or spa why enter through a bedroom it would easier if entertaining to use the restroom. How would you suggest this change? I am still trying to figure it out without losing the pantry.

How many square feet is there on the main level ? Is the kitchen designed for an oven under the stove? And it is this kitchen designed for the microwave to be in the island? Would there be a way to make the kitchen a little bigger so that it could have more counterspace and a place for a side-by-side refrigerator ?

I’ve been searching for a house plan like this, I love the layout. However, for my family I would like to flip the kitchen and dining room around similar to plans like the Chaucer or the Austin. Would that be a possibility?

  5. Kelli on

Love everything about it! If i built this house i would just increase the size of the master bedroom but thats the only thing i would change!

  6. Richelle Fleischer on

Why is the kitchen smaller than the dining room? Home owners use the kitchen every day but the dining room only occasionally…

    • Echo on

Hi Richelle, I can definitely understand your perspective. With modern homes moving toward a single dining space instead of a breakfast nook and formal dining room, it’s important that the dining room serve for everyday purposes as well as having enough space for larger family gatherings and special occasions. While the kitchen is used more frequently, it’s typically only intended to accommodate one or two people at a time. While some homeowners may need space to seat 10-12 guests in the dining room. The open design of the kitchen does help it feel and function larger, but as always, if the space doesn’t work for you, we offer modifications. We really appreciate the feedback and look at every comment when finalizing designs so thank you for sharing your thoughts!

Love the main level of this house! But… we don’t need the upstairs. Is there a similar plan with a finished basement? Or… can this “become” a one level home with basement?

  8. Mary on

Go ahead and do future bath upstairs for bedroom already there and make other bath by stairs for that bedroom. Forget future bedroom.
