In a previous blog article (April 2015) , I talked about homeowners doing more with less, and making creative use of the square footage they had available. Another great way to extend one’s living experience is through the addition of a walkout, or daylight, basement. Walkout basements are typically built on a sloped yard so that a portion of the basement can be above ground to allow for doorways (often sliding glass) and windows to allow light in. They offer flexible space and are ideal for creating additional square footage. Oftentimes walkout basements are open to allow for a number of potential uses—including an extra family room, an additional bedroom, an entertainment room, or even a storage or utility room.
