We are planning to build our dream home and we have researched extensively the idea of livable space. We currently live in a home with almost 4000 sqft and find that we spend 80 percent of our time in approx 2700 of those sqft. The dilemma is to build our dream home for our two boys to grow and have our home be comfortable for two of us (empty nesters) after our children leave for college in 10-12 yrs. We do not want a McMansion, we have read all the "Not so big houses" books, and we would really appreciate some wisdom and experiences of anyone who has built with the "Not so big house" or downsize mentality.
